Want to make a difference in the healthcare space? Want to help create content that doctors and patients will actually see and find helpful? Look no further than performance.io.

Just like us, our graduate scheme is unique, providing exposure to the fundamentals of client services and search engine optimisation (SEO) as well as creation of medical content for the web. Find out more below:

Who are performance.io?

As our name suggests, we’re all about online performance. If you’re creating content for the web, you need to be considering SEO. We are pioneering a data-driven approach to content creation and strategy in healthcare. With countless pharmaceutical and healthcare websites out there with little to no organic traffic, the untapped potential for search-optimised content in these industries is huge!

As the only pure-play SEO and performance agency in healthcare and pharma, we help our clients break through the noise of misinformation and poor quality content. Our passion lies in healthcare because it’s where we believe we can do the most good. Healthcare professionals, patients, and the public use search engines on a daily basis for health-related queries. This means the quality of content on a search engine results page (SERP) can directly impact the health and wellbeing of people around the world. By creating accurate, helpful content that ranks highly on SERPs, we make sure that anyone who has a health-related search query gets the information they need.

We also work in the consumer space to keep up with the latest SEO trends, and have a dedicated Animal health division to make sure veterinarians can find the answers they need also.

What does the graduate scheme involve?

Over 6 months you’ll have formal training sessions, opportunities to shadow various members of the Content, SEO and Accounts teams, and support on multiple active client projects to get a feel for how we do things. We advise pharmaceutical companies on how to structure their websites, as well as review and create content to ensure their site can be easily found through a search engine.

Our unique, insights-driven approach to content creation means you’ll not only be researching and writing medical copy, but also diving into the data to understand what our audiences are searching for, and what content is currently ranking well. This includes:

Medical research and copywriting

Web content SEO strategy

Optimising content to improve user experience

At the end of the 6 months you and your manager will work together to decide which area of the business you will specialise in, based on your interests and abilities.

Why should you be interested?

You might think that the only options for using your life sciences degree are academic research, working in a lab, or medical writing. We’re offering you something different. Our graduate scheme lets you get creative, analytical and explore different disciplines across our teams. After exposure to Content, SEO and Accounts, you can decide what area best suits your interests, and tailor your progression to do the work that excites you the most.

You might discover you love researching new therapy areas and treatments and decide to focus on writing medical content. You may prefer focusing on higher-level content strategy or diving into the data to solve an elusive problem for a client’s site. Alternatively, you might decide that owning client relationships and ensuring our projects run smoothly appeals to you the most. There’s only one way to find out!

During your extensive onboarding period, we’ll teach you everything you’ll need to know about SEO to get stuck right in. Skills can be taught but the right mindset is essential. If you are passionate about having a real impact on patients’ lives, then we’d love to chat.

Are you up for the challenge?

Who can apply?

  • Educated to at least Bachelor’s degree level in life sciences, medicine, pharmacy or a related discipline (Masters’ is a bonus).
  • Able to distil complex medical concepts (e.g. disease features, drug efficacy and safety data) into simple content that’s clear, concise, and compelling.
  • Demonstrated research and referencing skills.
  • Existing knowledge of SEO and/or writing copy for the web is a bonus, but certainly not required – our training will get you up to speed in no time!

What’s it like to work at performance.io?

We are an energetic and diverse team with offices across London, NYC, India and the Netherlands. Our teams across the globe understand the importance of enjoying social activity outside of work – we work hard and play hard.

In 5 years performance.io has grown from 5 employees to almost one hundred a growth rate that keeps going and creates huge opportunities for progression. This is a credit not only to the fantastic work we do for our clients, but also the open, friendly, supportive culture we’ve cultivated across all our teams.

We are proud to have united such a diverse, inclusive group of legendary talent – our #PIOneers have their roots in all corners of the world. Supporting employees at all stages of life, our team are empowered to thrive in any given situation: from apprentices coming straight from high school, to interns, university grads, industry newcomers, to parents, and everything in between.

We currently operate out of collaborative WeWork spaces across the globe which look and feel nothing like your typical office cubicle. As standard our staff work 2+ days a week in the office, and spend the rest of the week working from home. Our flexible model of hybrid working enables us to get valuable face-to-face time with the team while allowing us to balance our work commitments with our personal lives.

We also know the office isn’t for everyone. We’re all about you finding the best way to do your best work. This means we’re always open to discussing more flexible options. We have remote employees from across the UK and beyond. Travel into London occasionally will be required for this scheme, but beyond that we can discuss flexible work arrangements on an individual basis.

What are you looking for from an applicant?

We understand that diversity is crucial to allow us to do our best work. Bringing together minds with different backgrounds, geographies, and perspectives helps us create the best outputs for our clients. So there’s not one list that makes the perfect team member, but the below will definitely help:

Curiosity – always asking questions and challenging the way we do things. As a small but growing business, we’re always looking for ways to improve our ways of working to benefit everyone.

Laser focussed – when it comes to writing content, especially for a highly regulated industry such as pharmaceuticals, we need excellent attention to detail and reviewing skills to make sure we only do the best work for our clients.

Fantastic communicator – in a fast-paced agency environment, communication on project progress, issues, and priorities is key. We also want you to feel comfortable speaking your mind, and know that the best meetings start with a nice chat!

Deadline driven – you can’t beat the satisfaction of ticking a job off your to-do list on time, right? If you’re nodding your head, then this is the job for you.

Expert plate spinner – you’ll be working across a variety of accounts, balancing different clients, therapy areas, and types of project. Our team loves the variety, but it means you’ll need to be able to keep your head straight and shift priorities at a moment’s notice.

Please submit your CV and a Video Cover Letter or a written Cover Letter below. What’s a video cover letter? Well it’s an alternative to the traditional written cover letter! Let us know what your interests are outside of work, why you’re excited about the scheme, and what makes you a good fit for performance.io.

A few points to note:

  • The scheme is only open to applicants based in the UK, and will require occasional travel to our London offices.
